17 Apr 2015
A community warning has been issued for smoke in the area of Dohertys Road, Laverton, due to a large fire in a stack of scrap metal.

About 30 MFB firefighters are working to extinguish a fire at the Norstar Metal Recyclers burning through a large stack  of recycled metal and rubber car parts.

The section on fire is 10 x 10 metres which is part of a potential stack measuring 50 x 10 x 10 metres.

A front-end loader and specialist equipment is being used to pull the stack apart to aid the firefighters.

No injuries have been reported and the cause is currently unknown.

Due to the nature of the fire MFB firefighters are expected to be on scene for most of the day.
