Fire at recycling plant in Alphington.

Additional firefighting appliances were despatched immediately and crews were quickly on scene finding a large fire in a roll papermaking machine on the first floor.

The large machine is 100 metres in length and protected by 115 sprinkler heads.  This installed fire protection sprinkler system activated and assisted with containing the fire with the additional assistance of the Amcor on-site fire team.
Approximately 50 MFB firefighters worked in an extremely hot environment taking over an hour to bring under control.  
Significant damage has occurred to the machinery with some damage to the roofspace.  MFB crews remained on scene throughout the night to continue fire duties.
The fire started within the heat processing unit in the upper section of the machinery.
