05 Jul 2013
Approximately 50 firefighters attended a fire in Chapel Street’s shopping precinct yesterday.

The fire was contained to a 30 metre by 30 metre space in the centre of the structure extensively damaging two shops.  A further four to five shops where damaged by heat, smoke and water.

The blaze was believed to have started above the Caffe Siena Ristorante on the corner of Barry and Chapel streets and took approximately one hour and fifteen minutes to bring under control.

Traffic was blocked between Toorak and Commercial Roads and power shut off to the block. Fire investigators will be attending the scene today to determine the cause.
