03 Feb 2014
Firefighters fought to save neighbouring homes after a large house fire in Pascoe Vale overnight.

MFB received numerous 000 calls for the well-alight home on Derby Street about 1.15am.

On arrival it was determined that additional trucks would be required due to the fire intensity and poor water availability.

The home is a two story brick and weatherboard and strong concerns about adjoining homes had firefighters using aggressive procedures to save these properties.

No cause has been determined at this early time and MFB Fire Investigators will attend the scene. Initial estimate has put the damage value over $200,000.

It took 25 minutes for the fire to be deemed under control, but was still burning within.

Due to the intensity of the fire crews wore breathing apparatus and given the ambient temperature, a MFB rehab vehicle was responded to assist crews. Ambulance Victoria also attended to provide support to the occupants.

Support was provided by: AV, Victoria Police and Yarra Valley Water.

MFB crews remained in attendance overnight.

A Community Warning was issued in regards the fire and road closures in the area.

ATTENDING APPLIANCES: 10 (plus 4 Command Staff)

No. of FIREFIGHTERS: 40
