Four units have been severely damaged following a fire in Brunswick in the early hours of this morning.

The fire broke out just after midnight in a block of six units in Hope St and forced the evacuation of residents.

The fire began in one of the units but quickly spread to three others. At the height of the blaze, fifty firefighters were battling to bring the fire under control.  Fire crews were able to save two of the units but the others  suffered significant damage. The damage bill has been estimated at up to a million dollars.

The blaze took just under an hour to bring under control. Fire Investigators will return to the scene this morning to investigate the cause of the incident.
