Firefighters battled a blaze which started at a house reportedly meant to be auctioned today on Fraser Street in Middle Park.

Initial crews from Windsor and South Melbourne fire stations were called shortly before 11:40am and arrived on scene to find the home fully alight.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus commenced an internal attack on the blaze.

Unfortunately the aggressive fire spread to the roof of the property as firefighters worked hard to contain it.

Thankfully, crews were able to stop the blaze spreading to neighbouring properties. Hard work by firefighters ensured the blaze was brought under control at 12:17pm.

Fortunately everyone has been safely evacuated and accounted for. Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, and utilities services are currently on scene assisting MFB.

At this stage the cause of the fire has not been determined.

At the peak of the blaze there were seven firefighting appliances on scene, and approximatley 20 MFB personnel in attendance.
