Fire investigators to attend Jacana home after overnight fire

back to list
19 Feb 2017
Firefighters have battled a house fire in Jacana overnight.

Crews were called to the single storey, weatherboard home in Pascoe Vale Road just after 2am.
MFB received several Triple Zero calls indicating the house was well alight so additional trucks were sent to the blaze.
On arrival, while attacking the fire, crews in breathing apparatus did a search of the house for a possible occupant that was unaccounted for.
This was made very difficult due to access being compromised by a large volume of personal belongings blocking access and throughout the house.
Crews continue to do an internal attack on the fire and search for any occupant, however they have had advice that the occupant may be on vacation.
Asbestos procedures were put in place to minimise exposure to firefighters.
A cause has not been determined at this stage.
A Community Advice message was issued for the smoke in the area and Pascoe Vale Rd was blocked due to firefighting operations.
It took just over one hour to bring the fire under control and determine no one was inside.
A cause has not been determined so our Fire Investigation will be attending in the morning to investigate.
