MFB received a number of calls for a fire at an engineering firm in New Street, South Kingsville.

The first two trucks arrived on scene around 1.15am this morning, within 6 minutes of being despatched.

Upon arrival, crews immediately called for assistance, reporting a fire within a steel structure 50m x 20m in size.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus forced entry into the building.

The fire was in the office area on the mezzanine level of the structure however firefighters could not approach due to the floor being unsafe.

They managed to contain it to the office area, while an aerial appliance (teleboom) was used to access the building via the windows at the front and extinguish the fire.

The fire was announced under control at 2.02am.

MFB's Fire Investigation and Analysis Unit will investigate the cause later today.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also assisted.
