MFB crews responded quickly to a house fire that ripped through an Albion home on Forrest Street just before 7am this morning.

The first appliance arrived at the15x20 meter weatherboard home in just over four minutes. The house was issuing significant smoke and flames and the situation was further complicated by sparking overhead power lines and the fire threatening surrounding properties.

At the height of the blaze more than 20 firefighters in breathing apparatus worked to contain the fire through aggressive firefighting tactics. Additional water lines were used to cover and protect the premises next door.

The fire was deemed under control in just over 30 minutes. Asbestos was identified at the property and decontamination procedures were implemented.

All five occupants of the home evacuated before MFB crews arrived and there were no reported injuries.

The cause of the fire will be investigated by MFB’s specialist team of Fire investigators.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were in attendance.
