More than 30 firefighters have responded to a fire at a double storey flat on Killerton Crescent, following several Triple Zero (000) calls just after 9pm.

MFB crews arrived within 7 minutes to the building in Heidelberg West and found the home fully involved in the fire.

Upon arrival firefighters wearing breathing apparatus conducted an internal search of the home for occupants.

Residents in neighbouring homes self-evacuated prior to MFB’s arrival.

The fire is not yet under control and crews are expected to remain on scene for some time as they work to contain the blaze to the affected flat.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this stage, however investigations will commence once the fire is completely extinguished.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are assisting MFB on scene.

UPDATE:

Fortunately there were no occupants in the home at the time of the fire, and no injuries were reported.

The fire was deemed under control just after midnight at 12:08am.

Firefighters believe the blaze began under suspicious circumstances, and Victoria Police are investigating.
