Firefighters have prevented a fire from consuming a home in Kew this morning.

The single story property on Denmark St was producing smoke from the roof when it caught the attention of a passer-by who raised the alarm just before 9am.

Initial crews arrived in less than five minutes. Donned in breathing apparatus, firefighters entered the property to search for occupants.

Thankfully no one was home at the time and crews mounted an external and internal attack to extinguish the blaze. The property has suffered extensive damage to the roof space due to the fire.

The incident was declared under control after 30 minutes.

The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
