Multiple triple-zero calls were received just before 4am this morning for a house fire in Christine Street, Blackburn South.

Some callers reported that the house was fully involved so extra trucks were despatched.

On arrival, MFB firefighters found the single storey weatherboard house fully involved so immediately got to work to extinguish the blaze and protect neighbouring properties.

Due to the ferocity of the fire it was initially impossible to get inside to conduct a search, however neighbours advised crews that they thought the occupant was staying at a house close by.

Thanks to the fast work of firefighters, the blaze was brought under control in 15 minutes.

At this early stage a cause has not been determined and fire investigators will be attending the scene later.

It has been confirmed that the occupant was not in the house at the time of the fire.
