Firefighters extinguish Fitzroy fire

Fitzroy residents received an early wake up call following a fire at an apartment block overnight.

MFB firefighters were called to the premises about 3.45am after reports of smoke billowing from inside.
Approximately three hundred residents were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters worked to stop the spread of the flames.
Firefighters managed to contain the fire to a hallway.
The building was swiftly made safe and residents were returned to their homes.
Two people were treated by Ambulance Victoria paramedics for smoke inhalation.
The fire is being treated as suspicious and Victoria Police is investigating.
