A tram has ploughed into a Kew home overnight.

Firefighters have worked through the night to remove a tram from a Kew home after it derailed last night and ploughed into the property.

The incident occurred on High Street at 11.15pm.

It appears the tram came into contact with the home after a collision with a car, forcing it off the tracks.

High Street was closed while MFB rescue crews worked to free the female driver of the car (who was taken to hospital) and remove the tram from the side of the house. It took four hours to clear the scene.

Thankfully no one from the tram suffered any injuries and they were all safely evacuated.

A building surveyor will attend the scene to assess the structural integrity of the home.

Victoria Police will investigate the cause of the crash.
