Firefighters lift tram to free trapped woman in Prahran

A lady has sustained serious leg injuries when she accidentally slipped from a tram when disembarking to go to work this morning.

The incident occurred on Commercial Road outside the Alfred Hospital in Prahran about 7.40am.

The tram was stationary when she slipped and her leg became wedged between the platform and tram step.

The remainder of the commuters were safely removed.

Rescue personnel from Yarra Trams and the MFB worked together in ensuring the patients wellbeing and using specialist equipment lifted the tram.  It took just over an hour release the lady and place the tram back on the tracks.

Ambulance Victoria, MFB and staff from the Alfred hospital cared for her medically.
