A curious boy became stuck in a drain cover requiring a swift rescue by firefighters over the weekend.

The five year old boy became stuck inside a drain cover on Saturday 29 November just before 10.30am at Halliday Park in Mitcham.

The boy managed to climb inside the cover but then could not get back out.

MFB crews from Nunawading managed to release the boy (Theodore) after cutting the padlock.

The rescue took just 15 minutes from the time of receipt of the call.

Theodore was checked over by ambulance paramedics before being returned to the care of his mother.
