09 Feb 2016
Peak hour commuters were affected by a series of fires on the Craigieburn line this morning.

Firefighters had to stop trains on the Craigieburn line this morning after a series of fires near the tracks.

Crews were called to the Moonee Ponds Creek near Pascoe Vale Road just before 8am.

On arrival they discovered three small fires about one kilometre north of Strathmore Train Station and requested Metro Trains halt trains in both directions to allow firefighters safe access to the tracks.

It took crews almost 40 minutes to extinguish the fires. The lines were reopened about 8.45am.

It's unclear what started the fires but they are not being treated as suspicious.
