04 Aug 2015
Firefighters have battled a fire at an abandoned factory in Footscray.

Calls were received just before 6am for a factory fire on Neilson Place, and oncoming crews upgraded the response seeing smoke and flames from a distance.

When they arrived they found a significant fire in a disused factory. Shortly after arrival the call was again upgraded as crews required more firefighting resources.

The building is a disused two storey factory approximately 50 by 30 metres.  MFB firefighters attacked the fire externally and prepared to enter the building wearing Breathing Apparatus.

The fire was declared Under Control after 31 minutes and Firefighters are conducting a search of the abandoned building to ensure there are no squatters resident in the building.

At this stage the cause of the fire or an estimate of damage are not available.
