Fireys fight to save sporting memorabilia in suspicious blaze

Trophies and sporting memorabilia were saved in a suspicious fire overnight.

Fire crews were called to the Esther Park sports complex in Mooroolbark just after 1am.

On arrival they found the roof of the clubrooms was completely involved in fire this morning.

Crews were successful in confining the extent of the fire damage to the roof supporting timbers and some supporting walls.

The fire was deemed under control in 30 minutes. Breathing apparatus was in use.

The fire has been deemed suspicious and police will be investigating.

Damage is expected to exceed $50,000.

CFA crews assisted MFB crews at this fire.
