Flooding at Melbourne backpacker hostel

back to list
28 Dec 2016
Hundreds of guests had a rude awakening following flooding at a Melbourne backpackers hostel last night.

Firefighters were called to the property on Elizabeth Street about 11.30pm after water began spreading across six floors.

Around 300 people were evacuated by MFB and Victoria Police while firefighters cleared some of the water away.

The guests will be moved to another part of the hostel.

It's believed the flooding began following malicious damage to a sprinkler head.
