Footscray bar damaged in early morning blaze

MFB crews remain on scene following a fire in a bar and restaurant in Footscray early this morning.

Crews were called to M Bar and Kitchen on Barkly Street just before 4am after reports of a fire in the two-storey building.
Additional appliances were dispatched to assist gaining access to the fire on the first floor, which was totally engulfed in fire.
The fire was deemed under control in 30 minutes.
A community warning has been issued alerting residents of the fire and smoke in the area.
Traffic should avoid the area until later this morning as MFB crews are set up on Barkly Street.
Police and AV are on scene.
Update:

Damage to the building is estimated at approximately $300,000. The MFB have requested the Maribyrnong Council Surveyor attend in the morning to check the structural integrity of the external walls.

MFB Fire Investigators will be attending at first light to determine a cause.
