Former Laverton Park Primary School destroyed in overnight blaze

The former Laverton Park Primary School has been destroyed by fire overnight.

Firefighters were called to the single storey derelict and partially demolished building (50 x 30 metres) about 2.45am.

The once, Laverton Park Primary School, was totally involved in fire when firefighters first arrived on scene.

Firefighting appliances surrounded the timber and iron building utilising defensive strategies to extinguish the fire.

The fire took 30 minutes to bring under control. There were no other properties threatened.

A community warning was issued for smoke in the area.

No injuries have been reported.

MFB firefighters will remain on scene throughout the morning to continue to extinguish and maintain fire duties
The fire has been deemed of a suspicious nature and police have been informed.
