Fridge fire in Oakleigh East

A family of three had a lucky escape after a faulty fridge erupted in flames in Oakleigh East this afternoon.

MFB firefighters were called to the Elysium Court home just before 3pm and quickly got the fire under control.

The occupants of the home, grandparents and their grandchild, had safely evacuated prior to firefighters’ arrival.

The fire is now extinguished however crews remain at the property to check to potential hot spots.

 

·         Faulty or poorly maintained appliances are common and preventable causes of house fires.

 

·         Ensure all kitchen appliances are clean and in good working order

 

·         Only use certified electrical tradespeope to repair dmaged/fdaulty electrical appliances, wiring or equipment.

 

·         When purchasing appliances, look for the Australian Standards logo.
