Gas leak at Collingwood Mexican restaurant

Fireys responded to a gas leak at a Mexican restaurant under construction earlier today.

Workers on the construction site struck and pierced a low pressure gas main on the property on Smith Street in Collingwood at 10.42am.

MFB firefighters responded to the gas leak and used hose sprays to disperse the gas cloud.

Firefighters wearing Breathing Apparatus monitored the gas concentrations with gas monitors to check the explosive limits of the leak.

Victoria Police blocked off all traffic on Smith St and Stanley St in both directions.

The gas company arrived on scene and closed down the leak; Smith street was reopened to all traffic at about 12:15 pm
