Gas leak forces evacuations.

MFB crews attended to reports of gas leaking Saturday afternoon. On arrival it was discovered that gas was seeping from the ground in the vicinity of residential homes.

Address: Balmoral, Braybrook

Around 16 residents were evacuated to a safer location whilst fire crews searched for the source of the leak.

Energy Safe and Gas Company representatives were soon in attendance to start investigations.

Due to the extent of the leak South East Water was also called to assist in the search and to check the sewer outlets. Maribynong Council attended to assist Police in placing the affected residents in temporary accommodation in Footscray.

There have been no reports of persons being affected by the gas leak and currently an excavator is being used to dig up the ground. MFB, Police and the other agencies will be involved until the risk is eliminated.
