House Fire Essendon

back to list
22 Aug 2011
A gas heater coming into contact with household goods has caused a fire which has all but destroyed this single storey brick home.

Date: August 19, 2011
Time: 18:36 hours
Call Number: 5631

Address: Fawkner Street, Essendon

An 8 year old boy heard the large swoosh sound as the fire took hold to the large fire load within the lounge room.  He immediately self-evacuated and waited at the letterbox to meet his mother.  Commander Besanko believes that the young boy was lucky to evacuate safely and had done so due to his school fire education classes.

The fire took 18 minutes to bring under control. The mother and child have found alternative accommodation.

The local council building surveyor has been requested to attend due to the structural damage that has occurred.

Attending Appliances: 7

Number of firefighters: 25

Officer in charge: Commander Frank Besanko
