House fire in Maidstone

Fire has extensively damaged a single-storey unoccupied house in Maidstone last night.

Address: Deakin Street, Maidstone. 

The fire in Deakin Street was reported just after 8:30 pm and although MFB crews were on scene in less than 6 minutes, the house was already “well alight”. 

One room was completely gutted with the fire extending up into the roof.  Two other rooms were also damaged by heat, smoke and water.

The fire was brought under control in 15 minutes with breathing apparatus being used extensively due to the presence of asbestos in the building materials.

The cause has been deemed suspicious and the damage bill estimated at $200,000.
