23 Jan 2017
Fire has destroyed one half of a duplex property in Latrobe Street, Hughesdale.

Crews were called to the scene at 10:19am and worked quickly to ensure the adjoining property was saved and did not sustain any major damage.

A search of the premises confirmed that no-one was at home but crews located and rescued a Maltese Shih-Tzu that had been locked in the garage.

The dog was unharmed and was cared for by neighbours until the owner returned.

Despite bringing the blaze under control in just 20 minutes, the roof of the duplex was almost fully destroyed and the interior of the property was also severely damaged by water and smoke.

MFB's Fire Investigation Analysis team are currently at the scene to determine the cause of the fire.
