04 Nov 2016
MFB firefighters are currently attending a gas leak at Federation Square.

The cause of the incident appears to be a broken natural gas pipe in one of the shops at Federation Square.

A substantial amount of gas was released and required the whole complex to be evacuated.

Victoria Police is on scene and assisted with the evacuation of approximately 200 people.

MFB crews are conducting atmospheric monitoring to determine the lower explosive limits of gas, however the likelihood of explosion is minimal as all ignition sources have been eliminated.

The incident is under control and Federation Square will remain evacuated until further notice.

MFB crews and Victoria Police will remain on scene to ensure the site remains clear.
