Incident at Melbourne Airport

UPDATE: MFB firefighters have investigated and determined the substance found at Melbourne Airport today is not hazardous.

The scene has been handed back to the airline for clean up.

 

MFB firefighters are currently on scene at Melbourne Airport conducting safety checks following the discovery of an unknown substance by airport staff.

Firefighters wearing protective gear are investigating and MFB is working with airport authorities and the Airport Rescue Firefighting Service.

There are currently six MFB appliances on scene which is a standard response to hazardous materials incidents.

No persons have been affected.

More information will be provided when it becomes available.
