Kitchen fire at Ivanhoe Chinese restaurant

Unattended food on a stove is believed to have started a fire in a Chinese restaurant early this morning.

Crews were called to the restaurant on Upper Heidelberg Road just after midnight.

Heidelberg and surrounding stations attended and used breathing apparatus to assist them to quickly gain entry and contain the fire to the kitchen area.

The fire took 30 minutes to bring under control.

The damage bill is believed to be close to $80,000
