Large Building Fire, Footscray.

The first floor was fully involved in fire with flames issuing out of the roof and windows.

Address: Paisley Street, Footscray.

MFB Firefighters were on scene at the two storey building within 4 minutes of receiving the fire call.

MFB firefighters had difficulty making access due to the intense fire and were unsure whether the residential property was occupied.  MFB Specialist ladder and platform appliances were utilized in suppressing the fire, enabling firefighters wearing breathing apparatus to search the premises, utilizing thermal imaging equipment.  Fortunately, the premises were found to be vacant.

The adjoining residential property was threatened by fire and the five occupants were evacuated safely and assessed by Ambulance Victoria on scene.  Commander Besanko has praised the efforts of the MFB firefighters, in stopping the spread of fire into their home.

The lower level of the building contains a hairdressers and a drycleaners and minimal damage has occurred to these premises. The fire took nearly 1 hour to contain.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown but investigations will continue into the morning. MFB firefighters will remain on scene throughout the night.
