Large explosions at Campbellfield factory blaze

back to list
24 Jan 2014
Large explosions alerted locals to the fire in the factory located in a Campbellfield industrial estate.

Crews were called to Bill's Trailers, Colbert Road in Campbellfield, about 1.15am.

Smoke and flames were visible to first responding fire crews and an escalation of response ensured a timely and strong attack.

On arrival firefighters found the 20 x 50 metre, metal, single storey building was omitting large volumes of smoke and flames were through the roof.

Robust security made it difficult for firefighters to initially gain access but once in the fire was contained to the rear third of the premises containing machinery, a spray booth and associated equipment. There was also partial roof collapse.

Smoke and water has damaged the remainder of the premise.

Whilst the fire took one hour to bring under control, MFB firefighters will remain on scene throughout the morning to continue fire duties.

There were no exposures or reported injuries.

The cause is currently unknown and specialist MFB Fire Investigators will attend in the morning.

The local building surveyor will also attend to check the structural integrity of the building.
