21 May 2012
MFB Crews from Richmond & Eastern Hill were quickly on scene to the single story brick unit which was already heavily engulfed by fire.

The first arriving crews requested additional support due to the intensity of the fire.

The occupant was unable to escape via the door as the fire was in the lounge room and spreading into the roof. She managed to climb out the bathroom window and has suffered no injuries.

The property is owned by DHS, who along with council are checking the structural integrity. After an investigation by MFB Fire Investigators the cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious and police have taken charge of the scene.

It took 25 mins to bring under control and the estimated damage to unit and contents is about three hundred thousand dollars.
