MFB Fireboat 2 assists in hot air balloon rescue in Port Phillip Bay

All passengers safely secured and pilot landed safely

At 8.30am this morning MFB received calls to assist in the rescue of nine passengers from a  hot air balloon that was losing height in Port Phillip Bay.

Two appliances and Fire Boat Two was swiftly dispatched and assisted with the rescue of the passengers, transporting them to the Beaumaris Motor Yacht Squadron.

On arrival the passengers were assisted off Fireboat 2 by MFB crews and taken to Ambulance Victoria staff for checks.

The pilot landed the balloon safely on the beach shortly afterwards.

The incident will now be investigated by the appropriate authorities.
