06 Apr 2009
The MFB’s Charity Running Club will officially present a cheque for $30,000 to The Alfred hospital’s burns unit. The funds were raised through the MFB’s Great ANZAC Run in 2008.

WHEN: Tuesday 7 April 2009, 12.00 pm

WHERE: The Alfred Main reception, Commercial Rd, Melbourne VIC 3004

WHY: The Great ANZAC Run 2008 was a success, with MFB firefighters and support crew raising $30,000 to be donated to The Alfred hospital’s burns unit.

The cheque will be presented to Alfred burns specialist, Dr. Michael Weymouth, by the Minister for Police and Emergency Services, The Honourable Bob Cameron MP.

The event began in Gallipoli the day after ANZAC day 2008 and finished in London on 18 May 2008.

The run in itself was a great achievement. The runners covered 4,075 kms and they passed through Turkey, Greece, Crete, Italy, France, Belgium and England to raise money for The Alfred hospital’s burns unit.

The runners visited many World War 1 battle sites and war graves along the way to pay homage to the young Australians who gave their lives at war. The message of the run was one of self-sacrifice, mateship, integrity and a commitment to the very essence of what it means to be an Australian.
