A busy night for MFB crews

Just after 8.30pm last night, MFB received calls for an explosion and fire in a garage adjoining a house in Baroda Street, Travencore.

On arrival crews found the garage well alight with the threat of possible extension into the ground floor of the two storey brick dwelling.

The occupants had evacuated safely, and MFB firefighters in breathing apparatus attacked the fire, containing it to the garage. The fire was declared under control in 33 minutes and has been deemed suspicious.

Seven appliances and over 20 firefighters fought the fire.

Then, just before 10pm, MFB received several calls to a ground floor unit on fire in a two storey complex in Park Place, Fitzroy North, with reports that an occupant was missing from the apartment.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus tackled the blaze and conducted a search for the missing person but no one was found inside.
The fire was declared under control after 25 minutes and the cause of the fire will be investigated.

Eight appliances and over 25 firefighters tackled the blaze.
