MFB crews contain chemical leak in Mulgrave

MFB firefighters were called to an incident involving a leak of liquid ammonia at the Bulla Factory on Miles Street in Mulgrave just after 2:00pm today.

Utilising on site specialists and expert advice from MFB Scientific Officers, firefighters wearing fully encapsulated suits isolated the chemical leak and were able to bring the incident under control in 2 and a half hours.

One worker was treated and transported to hospital after being sprayed by the product on his face and hands.

20 people were also evacuated and assessed on scene.

One MFB firefighter was transported to hospital as a precaution following exposure to the product.

MFB firefighters remain on scene to monitor the atmosphere and to ventilate the property. Workcover are also in attendance.
