MFB crews were called to a worksite behind a factory on Cambro Road in Clayton last night, after a Triple Zero (000) caller reported a column of smoke coming from the site at 11:05pm.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire behind a roller door in the 15 x 15 meter building.

Crews initially had difficulty gaining entry to the building, however once inside made quick work of the fire.

The fire was declared under control less than 40 minutes after crews arrived on scene.

The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

The site has been handed over to Victoria Police for further investigation.
