MFB firefighters tackling grass fire blaze in Thomastown

Fire caused by power lines, motorists asked to avoid area

MFB firefighters are currently tackling a large grass fire in Thomastown.

The fire call was received at 3.41pm and crews arrived on scene within seven minutes.

It is understood that the fire has been caused by an electrical short from the power lines.

Six appliances and more than 20 firefighters are tackling the large blaze.

Motorists are being asked to avoid the area, near High Street and Mahoneys Road.

UPDATE: The fire was deemed under control at 4:17pm. Crews will remain on scene. for some time.
