19 Jun 2008
The MFB will again lend its support to the annual Victorian Winter Blanket Appeal, housing collection boxes for blankets at each fire station in the metropolitan fire district.

This year’s appeal, which will run for a six week period from 16 June 2008 through to 31 July 2008, will aim to collect 20,000 blankets, scarves, beanies and gloves for needy Victorian’s. In 2007, a record total of 16,000 blankets were raised.

The public are able to drop off their blankets at any MFB fire station on weekdays between 9am and 5pm. The stations are not able to take cash donations.

Commander Andrew Zammit said that the MFB was pleased to have the opportunity to assist the appeal.

“We are glad to be able to give back to the community that we serve in this way,” he said.

The Victorian Winter Blanket Appeal, run by VicRelief Foodbank, is one of Australia's longest running appeals. In addition to donating blankets at fire stations, people are able to make monetary donations, with 100% of funds going towards the purchase of blankets.

Visit the VicRelief Foodbank website at www.vrfb.com.au for more information or to make a donation.
