Macleod Aged Care Facility fire

An automatic alarm operating first alerted the MFB to a fire at the aged care facility.

TIME: 18:12 CALL No.: 6386

On arrival, firefighters assisted staff in evacuating 8 residents from their units. One occupant suffered smoke inhalation and was transported to hospital.

The fire travelled through the ceiling space of 4 units within the 13 unit block. MFB firefighters worked well in ensuring that the fire did not spread further and bringing the fire under control in 35 minutes. The 4 units have been extensively damaged, whilst 3 others have suffered smoke and water damage

An MFB Fire Investigator is currently on scene to commence preliminary investigations into the fire. A full investigation into the cause, which is currently undetermined, will continue at first light.
