MFB firefighters were called to a flat in Malvern Road just after midnight after several calls were received to 000 alerting emergency services to the fire.

Upon arrival firefighters found an apartment on the first floor of a two story apartment complex behind shops in Malvern Road well alight. Firefighters had difficulty gaining access to the property as they had to enter from a rear laneway but once the fire was located an internal attack was use to quickly extinguish the fire.  A subsequent search of the premises revealed a deceased occupant.

The apartment building was extensively damaged by fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined and the premise remains a crime scene until fire investigators and police investigate.
