Man escapes Kew house fire

A man was lucky to escape a fire in Kew, which partially destroyed his home.

Crews were called to the single storey weatherboard house in May St near Fitzwilliam St just before 5.30pm on February 7.

The fire has originated in the front room of the premises before spreading into adjoining rooms and then up into the roof space.

Two front rooms including the contents and the roof space has been destroyed by fire while the remainder of the premises has been so extensively damaged that it  will most probably have to be demolished.

The male occupant of the premises escaped uninjured from the burning building.

Firefighters deemed the fire under control in 30 minutes. Breathing apparatus was in operation.

The fire caused approximately $350,000 damage. MFB Fire Investigation Unit are yet to establish a cause.
