27 Sep 2016
Firefighters have battled a suspicious fire in West Melbourne this evening.

Crews were called to the single storey brick house fire in Chetwynd Street just before 7.30pm.

Quick action from the first crews on scene predominately confined the fire to one bedroom; however there was some extension of the fre into the roof space and into the roof space of the neighbouring property.

There was some concern for the welfare of a 19 year old male who was reported to have been there earlier so an extensive search was conducted by firefighters in breathing apparatus. He was not home at the time and has now returned.

The fire took approximately 30 minutes to bring under control.

Police on scene have deemed the fire to be suspicious and are investigating.
