Man hospitalised after Airport West factory explosion

A man in his fifties received burns to his arms, legs and face after an explosion in Airport West this afternoon.

Fire crews were call to the metal works factory at 1pm.  Triple-zero received multiple calls for explosions and fire.

Six workers were evacuated and Ambulance Victoria attended to two patients at the scene.

One man has severe burns and was transported to hospital the other has minor burns to his arms and was treated on scene by Ambulance Victoria.

The cause is under investigation by the fire investigators, but it is believed that the fire was started by fumes from paint mixing occurring in a spray booth.

A community warning was issued due to thick black smoke from the blaze.
