McKinnon house fire contained to bedroom

Firefighters responded to a fire on Station Avenue at 12:42am this morning.

Protective Services Officers patrolling the nearby train station spotted the fire and called Triple Zero before attempting to assist.

Crews arrived within four minutes and, wearing Breathing Apparatus, rescued the flat's resident. 

The fire was contained to the bedroom and deemed under control within six minutes.

The rescued man in his 40s was treated by Ambulance Victoria on scene and transported to hospital.

The cause of the fire has been deemed electrical and will be investigated.
