Explosion at building under construction in Preston

Shortly after 9am this morning, MFB firefighters were called to an explosion in an electrical sub-station at a building under construction in Preston.

The fire was extingushed in within 7 minutes.

MFB firefighters provided first aid to two electricians who received serious burns to their face and hands at the incident, until paramedics from Ambulance Victoria arrived.

Both patients were transported to the Alfred Hospital.

A further 40 construction workers were evacuated safely from the building.

WorkSafe has been notified and MFB Fire Investigators are on the scene.
