MFB Firefighters were called when two buildings caught fire near the iconic Nylex site in Cremorne just after 12 midnight.

Multiple calls to triple-zero were made following sightings of smoke in the area and embers coming through the roof of a building next to the Nylex silo site.

Firefighters arrived on scene in less than six minutes, and additional appliances were called as the fire spread quickly.

Crews conducted an external attack on the fire and used aerial appliances to reduce the blaze. The fire was declared under control at 2:05am.

Batman Avenue out bound lanes on to the City Link remain closed, and to ensure safety Gough Street will remain closed until further notice.

There are a large number of emergency service personnel at the scene, Community members are advised to avoid the area if possible.

The two buildings are approximately 150 m x 100m in size and have not been in use for some time.
