MFB firefighters are currently on scene in Bundoora where a fire broke out in a residential home this afternoon.

Crews were alerted to the property on Havelock Ave at 2:40pm after a neighbour and passer-by witnessed flames and smoke from the premise.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus immediately entered the home to search for occupants and attack the fire from the inside.

The quick work of firefighters managed to stop the flames from spreading beyond the kitchen and the roof space.

Thankfully all occupants were accounted for and the fire was declared under control in 17 minutes.

The cause of the blaze is not known at this stage.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also assisted at the scene.
